Alongside HP Umpire Vic Carapazza, West’s crew ruled batter Alec Bohm’s bat guilty of making follow-through contact with Washington catcher Kurt Suzuki, a textbook case of colloquially called backswing “interference” pursuant to Official Baseball Rule 6.03(a)(3), whose comment prescribes the penalty: “It shall be called a strike only (not interference). The ball will be dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play.”
