Taxes and Hockey! This was a very interesting and informative conversation with Dr. Jacob McGee who did a deep dive into the effects of NHL cities state and provincial payroll tax and how it may effect building a winning team. Jacob shared some great information on how taxes affect how much money an NHL player actually takes home. We also talked about how state taxes could play a factor in where a player decides to sign and how teams in lower taxed states could use that to their advantage to save salary cap money to invest in additional players. We also discussed how looking into a teams state tax can help predict who will advance in the NHL playoffs, This episode was a lot of fun and went down some interesting rabbit holes.
