SHAFT VS SHAFT 2 UST MAMIYA PROFORCE V2 BLACK VS PROJECT X EVEN FLOW BLACK

Cobe Life Golf

Shaft vs Shaft challenge

The second episode of Shaft vs Shaft has the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Black vs the Project X Even Flow Black. Both shafts can be found for around $100.

I used the Impact Vision Simulator at Tracer Golf in Toronto Ontario, with Titleist ProV1 golf balls. I hit a number of practice shots with each shaft in order to figure out the optimum Loft and Weight settings. The Ping G loft sleeve allows for two degrees of adjustment. Both shafts performed best in the 9.6 degree setting. I have a weight kit for the Ping G SFT driver ranging from 5g to 16g. They both performed best with the 8g weight.

Six shots were taken consecutively with each Shaft in their optimum setting for the results with the worst shot removed from the calculations.

The Average distance with the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Black was 211.2 yards with a Straight flight, and 20 yards of Left Right deviation.
The Average distance with the Project X Even Flow Black was 213.4 yards with a relatively straight flight, and a Left right deviation of 35 yards. It is important to note that the 6 consecutive shots with the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Black were all playable shots. For these Shaft vs Shaft challenges I don’t count total miss hits that miss the Fairway as part of the consecutive 6 shots. With the Project X Even Flow Black I actually had two very poor strikes that missed the Range Fairway. One was to the Left, and one to the Right. The Project X Even Flow Black was far more difficult to control with my swing.

Ultimately it was the Shot Dispersion and ease of control I had with the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Black that makes it the winner of this Round. Going into this Round I assumed the Project X Even Flow Black would easily win. I generally prefer Stiff golf shafts, have had previous success with Project X golf shafts, and thought the Proforce V2 might be difficult to control. Testing proved my assumptions totally wrong. Maybe it was because I was swinging around 5mph slower than usual due to an injury. I can’t wait to try the UST Mamiya again when I’m feeling better.

This should serve as a warning for anyone looking to get Fit for golf clubs. Make sure you are 100% when you schedule a Fitting. Your Swing can change dramatically based upon your health.
