This afternoon on my walk back to work from my daily lunchtime stroll I noticed a very disturbing sight. I was saddened to see a lad leaving the gym in a pair of Skins Compression Leggings, that were so baggy MC Hammer himself would have been proud.

OK, I’m exaggerating a little here, but even from a distance I could the pockets of material that was bunched up in several place from hip to toe. The Skins compression running leggings are a high quality, high cost product and if you want to get your money’s worth then sizing is king.

Now, just to confirm, compression means tight. Not so tight so as to cut of the circulation to your lower extremities, but tight enough to feel them snuggly hugging your legs/torso/arms. You need to find the right fit.

The fit should be comfortable. It should feel and look like a second skin and you should immediately feel that nice, comfortable tightness. Most of the main brands of compression gear: Skins, 2XU, Under Armour, Nike Pro Combat etc, provide a sizing guide for their compression gear. You should use this as a guide by all means, as they won’t steer you far wrong.

I tend to find that the fitting for compression gear is pretty much the same fitting as usual clothes. If normally wear a large in regular clothing then a large in compression gear is what I’m after. I would also either suggest a ‘try-before-you-buy’ approach and visit a shop that sells the particular item you’re after. If this isn’t an option then pick a reputable online retailer with a good returns policy – my preference here would be Wiggle.

All in all, compression gear is great, but don’t fall into the trap of buying it baggy. It’s supposed to be tight, embrace it and enjoy.

Kalclash out 🙂
