ORVIS – Fly Casting Lessons – The Reach Cast

The reach cast is a must have skill for any serious dry fly fisherman. This cast allows you to make accurate presentations, and add mends into your line while the line is still in the air. Using a reach cast you can control where your fly line lands with precision, so you can avoid a drag free drift killing current.

Follow along with ORVIS casting professional Peter Kutzer and you’ll see that with a few new learned motions, you can quickly be using reach casts out on the water, and catching more fish in spots that were unreachable before.

This is a great skill to learn in conjunction with aerial mends.
