Winged Foot West & East Course – The Boss Golfs

Winged Foot GC – West Home of the 2020 US Open and East Courses. Steeped in history and tradition I was fortunate enough to play both Winged Foot West and East recently both Top 100 courses according to Golf Digest. The West course has one of the best combinations of green complexes I have ever played. While most fairways are generous, yet guarded by thick rough, the greens are large and difficult to navigate, the bunkers are deep and challenging and your approaches must be precise or you will need all your skill around these Tillinghast greens. The course really comes to life on the back 9 with more elevation changes and more dramatic green complexes. A scenic and beautiful walk the course is traditional with short walks between greens to tees. And while most fairways run alongside each other you often feel like you are one amongst few while playing. The East course is very similar to the famed West course but it is shorter and I feel it has more character throughout rather than preserving until the back 9 like the West. The greens are not as vast nor are the fairways as the West and while I enjoyed the green complexes the West has the superior complexes. I think between the two courses you have one of the best courses in America and usually, for the open, they play a few holes of the East I hear. I think the East is a better overall course but the back nine on the West is Iconic. The routing similar to the West is classic old school parkland executed to perfection. Golf Digest ranks the West No. 11 in America, No. 3 in NY and 25 in the world. Golf.com ranks the West No. 18 in America No. 23 in the World. Golf Digest ranks the East No. 52 in America, No. 3
10 in NY and 127 in the world. Golf.com ranks the East
No. 41 in America No. 62 in the World.
