Tiger Woods Ties Record With His 82nd PGA Tour Victory | This Week in Golf | 11/3/2019

Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer of our generation, just tied Sam Snead at the top of the PGA all-time wins list at 82. This Week in Golf, we’re talking about the enormous impact of Tiger’s win at the Zozo Championship in Chiba, Japan.

The legend of Tiger Woods is more than just folk lore. He’s strung together 7, 6, and 5 consecutive wins at different points during his career. 7 is second all-time, behind only Byron Nelson. 7 is also only 1 win less than any NBA team from the city of Charlotte has ever won in a row.

His 82 wins is more than the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Chicago Bulls won last year, combined. It’s also more than the New York Jets have won combined in 11 years.

Tiger Woods’ overall win percentage during his entire career is 22.9%. During the same time period, the Cleveland Browns have only won 29% of their games. For comparison, Tiger has been winning 4 day tournaments at a clip of 23%, while the Browns are only winning 29% of individual games.

To be fair though, Tiger has had his fair share of ups and downs. There was a time when we knew he would break every record, and another time when we thought we’d seen the last of him. He’s been through divorce, arrest, and debilitating injury. Through all of this, he fought back and has found himself back on the uphill climb to the top. His win at the 2019 Masters was as historic as it was improbable.

Then this past weekend, he traveled to Japan for the first PGA event in the country’s history, and he won it. He’s opened the door to golf for young Japanese children, like he did for so many American kids back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

So how many wins does he end up with? How many major tournaments? Put your guess in the comments, I’d love to hear what you think.
