How to Shoot in the 80's: Chip it closer

Hey Quite The Chap here for GolfersRX. In todays How to Shoot in the 80’s series in the 60 second series (which is becoming my favorite series within a series series) we’re going to talk about how to chip it that much closer.

Fact: at some point during a chip our ball is airborne and lands. Hopefully.
Fact: when the ball lands it’s going to roll out a lot or a little.

Lets just focus on the first fact…the ball is going to be airborne and land. If we can pin point where the ball is going to land, we’re going to have a much better chance of getting the ball closer to the hole.

– take a tee and put it in the ground. Start with your sand wedge and start hitting balls to it.
– Notice how far it runs out
– Now use an 9 iron and hit it to the same tee
– Notice how far it runs out
– Now use a 6 iron and notice how far it runs out

*NOTE: use whatever clubs you see fit

This exercise is two fold…it’s going to encourage you to try and land the ball on a specific spot and TWO, it’s going to allow us to gauge how far each club rolls out. Which we can then take to the course to gauge which club to use for a certain chip.

Pick a spot. Hit a spot.

Side note, you’re learning two different styles of chipping…congrats.

Until next time keep it simple.
