this tip makes hitting the golf ball a lot easier so we’ll start off with short game but it works into your long game iron striking now will become much more compressed efficient you you’ll really really feel where the body needs to go but think about short game as a mini swing with your irons we’re just about to get better at golf so thinking about an iron swing when we swing an iron we need to get some form of compression so the handle of the golf club leads the shot so it’s compressed so short game very very similar I’ve got an eight iron shot here I’ve actually got an N iron I’ve lied to you and I want to keep the ball nice and low so I need to get compression so the handle of the golf club needs to lead the shot so I’m back through the balls come out nice and low and run up towards the hole perfect so the handle led the club there into impact the handle of the golf club led the club head now when we play Shots on the course we want that compression we want the handle to lead the club head but then the post impact position is so so important where the club finishes or where your hands finish or where the butt end of the club finishes the toe of the club finishes that is very very important to ensure that we get the most of our ball striking so how do we do that absolutely how do we do that so I set myself up this is exactly the same as if I was hitting a full nine iron and I’m playing just a little Chip Shot so I set myself up the ball is Central in my stance middle of my stance underneath my sternum underneath my chest I then pop my weight a little bit more on my left side so I now create a line from ankle knee hip and shoulder are all in one line so my pressure is in that line there and I push my handle forward so it’s also on that line now that’s got everything there is now Target side it’s facing the target it’s Target bias and being Target side is exactly where impact should be so on these little short shots that I’m playing just now there’s no time for my body to get through but I want to capture the feeling of an impact position with my iron for example in a fuel shot so I set myself in a post impact position so my feet are open my hips are open my weights on my left side and my handles ahead of the golf ball and then through impact all I have to do is ensure my handle gets ahead of the golf ball before the club head makes contact with the ball before the club head makes contact with the ball that is key there handle first my weight is this side I’ve got my straight line handle ahead of the club head through impact and back to there and you can visualize that on your full shot there and back to he my handles ahead I have got forward shaft lean I’m in there through impact that’s what we’re after now the post impact position which is what we have to get to if we’re in a good post impact position then we’ve ensured through impact we’ve taken care of what we have to do take a golf te stick it in the butt end of your grip like so take your address position as we talked about before weight left knee ankle knee hip shoulder hands all in one line there then from there as we come through we take a little short back swing now the strike here I’m looking at a spot in the grass and I’m striking the same spot every time so I’m now controlling low Point there’s freedom and flow to this your shot game is going to get very good here and I know we’re talking about a full swing but this is impact so looking at a low point or looking at a point in the grass I’m there I’m striking the same spot every time and there’s flow to this and then when I follow through you ready I’m going to follow through and there now the body took the club to there the body took the club to there and the T now points back at my left pocket it points back at my left hip so I’m there to here cuz my body’s turned through the butt end of the club points towards my left pocket when I play the shot on the golf course I grip right down so sey with his short game savy amazing I want to carry this ball four yards I don’t want to set up for full shot so my 9 and goes 150 I don’t want to set up for a 150 shot I want to set up for a three or four yard shot so everything comes in stance comes in grip down the club come closer to the golf ball and the angle of the club is more upright so the heels off the ground which lets me swing straighter back and straighter through if I’m here I’m going more rounded flatter swing so I’m there boom simple so I’ve set myself up for success narrow stance down the grip handles up a little bit great back looking at my my contact points of where I’m striking the ground and then from there it’s the body takes me through as I grip down on the golf course because I can’t put the tea in I use the butt end as the te so I then focus on this section pointing back towards my lead pocket instead of the tea but obviously for this drill when you’re on practice you can simply use the T so stke location and turn body strike location turn body check T strike location turn body check T step on excellent where’s the T it’s Point towards my lead pocket now when you’re hitting a full shot that’s where you should be you should be there there there there and now we’ve got the lead T the T Point towards lead pocket I’ve had forward shating through impact and the body’s rotated through so that club is effectively pointing back towards W me what would be the opposite of that well that would be a nightmare wouldn’t it well the opposite of that would be a flick so the body’s not work the body’s not controlled itself at all it’s really been nonfunctional we’ve done this and of course where does the T point now the butt end of the club it’s pointing down here it’s pointing back towards this camera here I play my shot points back towards the camera what’s the result thin okay thin or a chunk because we’ve no longer controlled low point and the body sto turning so in such a short shot the body still turns on your full shot of course the body is going to turn so I’m here let me line myself up now oh so I’ve dropped my tea out that’s fine I’m going to use the butt end of the club so we’re on course now this has become real it’s become a real thing so I’ve got n iron put a little Chip Shot I’m thinking about my impact position low point I can see him striking the same spot every time turning through to butt end of the club to left pocket brilliant step on I’m fully happy I’m set up like sey for a four Yer there it is running out towards the hole it’s done it’s on a great line little bit short but look the butt end of the club points back my body had turned through and if I was to St open my stance my weights on my lead side rewind that that would be a full iron shot there so mini impact a mini impact to better ball striking let’s just do two more manyi impact there there’s flow there’s freedom in what I’m doing butt end of the club back to pocket there there’s no stress I’m not stressed out at all I’m not I’m not gripping tight my grip pressure is nice and light I’m just I’m free I’m flowing I’m letting this happen if we grip tight during the golf swing certainly with the short game stuff we are going to free out and the chance of success is very very limited or the chance of good contacts limited so I have to be nice and free trust my action there great step on with freedom it’s excellent it’s excellent so it’s what 3 ft probably not even that so relaxing into you have to relax and golf golf’s a golf’s a tough one we know golf’s a tough one golf’s a game where you need to be nice and relaxed in order to perform well especially around the green cuz this is all fuel stuff so mini impact is your focus you can see there my low point is absolutely spot on every time and as I finish my body is turned through and my butt in the my club is back towards me and it’s stressfree stress free go on excellent okay now I can do this with any club so I’ve used 9 for this video I can use a iron I can use pitch and wedge if I want to carry the ball further I can use Sand Wedge but it’s the same technique keep it as simple as possible now obviously if we’re playing a flop shot we need to open all up and and play something radically different but with with this shot just let me grab a wedge 1 2 3 4 five 6 yards so that camera in front of me there is six yards in front it’s 3 and 1/2 ft high or 3 feet high I’m going to do the same action I’m playing from exactly the same position I’ve got 54° wedge I’m there and here okay same thing more Loft so slightly longer swing so there weights on the left come back the butt end of the club points towards my lead pocket and I was stress free turning through I never tried to help the ball in there I just trusted and used the loft on the golf club so I’m not putting any extra effort in I’m not doing anything fancy that I don’t have to do and you can see they are clearly carrying over no problem and the butt end of that Golf Club Points back towards my body back towards my left pocket stress free that’s going to go in go on but you can see how the body’s turned through you can see I’m fully through butt end back there no need to open the face swing left that makes the game harder keep it as simple as possible try and keep your impact position for your full shots and your chip shots exactly the same so there to there coming through savy nice and slow nice and low back swing effortless that could have a chance do you know what I’m done hope you enjoyed that that was class I enjoyed making that video short game is brilliant short game is many impact or certainly that’s one way to look at it so if you master that it’s much easier to master that than it is actually hitting golf balls at a range so get half a dozen balls come to the short game area and just work on your impact position then take that feeling that feeling of the butt end of the golf club post impact
