Rob g i i i just we got to start here
and uh lot to talk about but
first the crowd in Detroit did you see
all that I mean that was impressive I’m
not here to you know me they they think
I hate Detroit because I was a tough
columnist in that town and that the
Tigers were awful the L you hate Detroit
so much you’re bringing a radio station
there thank you rob G that’s how much I
hate Detroit right so were you impressed
by the crowd was ridiculous they said
275,000 honestly I was a little
embarrassed because you’re out there to
watch guys call names for four hours you
know what Chris I mean Chris you know
what Rob G I’m with you on that and I
and I get it yeah it for for people it’s
like a once- in a-lifetime kind of thing
so it’s it hasn’t been there so you go
okay um you know I I it can’t come to
Detroit and if you’re a football fan or
whatever you’re not going to go right
but I’m with you to stand out there and
unless I got some cold adult beverages I
mean that is that is and the Lions
didn’t pick till 29th so can you imagine
even if you had the hometown entrance
right exactly right and then when he
comes out there with the 23rd pick the
Detroit Lions select a player you’ve
never heard of Y all right I think it
was was wasn’t it 29th whatever I mean
you know like most of those fans who go
to those kind of events they aren’t
really following these prospects like
they know the top six or seven guys all
they care it’s he’s going to be wearing
the team’s uniform line and that’s all
that matters all right but the biggest
thing that happened in the draft let’s
talk about that the Michael pennx Jr
pick by the Falcons H and Rob G just
break it down first and we’ll talk about
uh H how how this came about why this
came about CU I was with everybody else
scratching their head that didn’t make
any sense yeah it sent shock wave
through the NFL because as you noted Rob
Lass with the eighth overall pick the
Atlanta Falcons who just gave Kurt
Cousins a 4year $180 million contract
100 million
guaranteed took Michael penx Jr the
quarterback out of Washington had people
scratching their heads and
including Kurt Cousins agent Mike
McCartney told ESPN that he was both
that cousins was frustrated and confused
by the decision because they never told
him that they were thinking of drafting
a quarterback he was expecting them to
use that e eighth overall pick to get
someone to help the team now whether on
offense or defense so not only were
football fans and Falcon fans very
confused but even Kurt Cousins himself
was
flumix and rightfully so why would you
sign an older quarterback right and then
make this move it did did you sign Kirk
Cousins Rob G to rebuild or were you
supposed to be trying to win now or try
to make some sort of sneaky link and and
somehow wind up in the in the Super Bowl
or the or the NFC or or in the NFC
championship game what what what was
this it makes no sense I I
mean Kurt Cousins and his people have
every right to question it how why what
are they doing how about getting players
to help the current quarterback that you
just backed up the Brink’s truck for I
the future’s nice but once you sign ktk
cousins guess what the future is now
it’s not four years from now 3 years
from now it makes no
sense Rob I only got two words for you
what’s that stop it Rob I know that this
seems crazy on its face and to be honest
when I first saw the name come across
the ticker last night I kind of had the
same feeling you did and then I took a
step back and thought about it so
there’s three prong reason as to why I
think that panics Jr
pick I’m not going to say it was the
right pick but why I don’t mind the pick
all right number one Kurt Cousins is in
his mid-30s and he’s coming off at Toren
Achilles you shouldn’t have signed him
okay go sure okay so if if you using
that no but here’s my thing I think I’ll
listen I’ll let’s go ahead I think he’s
going to be fine cuz Kurt Cousins has
never been the kind of guy who was
relying on his athleticism or his foot
speed or anything like that to be a
quarterback he he plays the game above
the shoulders right like that’s he’s a
he’s a very cerebral accurate
quarterback so I think he’s going to be
fine but in the event that he’s not you
have your quarterback now in place who
has tons of experience in college and
he’s going to be able to perform at a
high level relatively quickly that’s
number one number two everyone’s talking
about the contract right you gave them
all this money 180 million 100 million
guaranteed but you and I know Rob that
the NFL salary cap is very fungible it’s
a lot of funny money is that like a
funion exactly fun it’s just as good as
funniest to be honest with you I would
have loved to have been in the room when
they were kicking around let’s come up
with this idea for these onion basically
onion rings right and somebody said you
know what they’re fun they’re delicious
call them call them
funions I mean Mary you’ve had funions
right have you had funions or is that an
old people thing no I’ve had funions
funions I mean who came up with that
they’re fire though funions okay that’s
the step before planties Rob that’s
right right 100% plant-based panties
that’s if you’re an original P1 listener
to the right you know about planties
planties coming soon to an Amazon
marketplace near you but here’s number
two okay so the money it’s not real
money and everyone’s talking about the
$100 million guarantee but if you look
at the way his contract is structured
first two years nothing you can do about
it he’s locked in basically at 90
million guaranteed C pits like 45
million each year more or less but in
the third year if you really wanted to
move on it’s it’s only going to cost you
$12.5 million against the cap to move
off of Kirk Cousins which in today’s NFL
is peanuts $12.5 million against the cap
is basically the equivalent of what my
Raiders are paying Gardner muu to be a
stop cap it’s what the Vikings are
paying Sam darnold to be a stop Gap so
that’s not necessarily a big you know
hurdle for them and the last one to me
the most important one is the Atlanta
Falcons quarterback situation has been a
graveyard for for like seven years now
they had the corpse of Matt Ryan there
at the end they had Marcus Mariota they
had Desmond Ritter they had Taylor
hinaki so I would understand why a team
like the Falcons who has seen firsthand
that if you don’t have a quarterback it
doesn’t matter what the rest of your
roster looks like because you’re not
going to win anyway why they would say
you know what we’re going to go ahead
and double
down taking a guy e rall like triple
down on the position so that we are not
stuck in this position again moving
forward I I don’t buy it that that’s
fine if you wanted to get a quarterback
and you had a pick right the eighth
pick why in the world would you have
signed Kurt Cousins coming off an injury
and the money I I hear about all that
then I would have if I was really
hellbent on getting a quarterback right
how many quarterbacks went there were
six right six in the first 12 okay which
means only four two of them are going to
be any good so there are six you have
the eighth pick and if you were hellbent
on getting one of those young
quarterbacks you could have moved up
without signing Kurt Cousins right could
you have not moved up and got made sure
if I move up to six I’m going get at
least one of those quarterbacks sure and
it probably would have been penck right
yeah if they really wanted him
absolutely okay so so and nowadays if
you really believe in a guy you’re going
to use a first round pick then what he
could start put him in the sooner you
get him to learn how to play I just
don’t buy into
it’s not like the Aaron Rogers thing
when you had a Hall of Fame quarterback
sitting there you just brought in Kurt
Cousins it doesn’t make sense when Aaron
Rogers said you had a Hall of Fame
quarterback in front of him right that’s
the only time you should have somebody
Kurt Cousins ain’t a Hall of Fame
quarterback it doesn’t make sense Rob G
this is why the Falcons are bad this is
why they’ve always been bad this is why
they choked the Tom Brady and the
Patriots I’m G still throw that in there
okay but didn’t Andy Reid say and he’s
you know supposedly the the quarterback
Guru of this era this generation he said
he’s one of the guys who said the best
time to look for a quarterback is when
you already have one because what you
don’t want to do is you don’t want to be
the New York Giants who didn’t have a
quarterback and they reached for Daniel
Jones you don’t want to be the
Pittsburgh steel didn’t have a
quarterback and they reached for uh
Kenny picket I I get that so get the guy
if you think that pennx can be the guy
then why wouldn’t you draft him why does
he need to sit a couple years behind
somebody if you really believe he’s the
guy and you’re using a first round pick
because you don’t want to crush his
confidence n they so much of these
quarterbacks is about situation more
than ability yeah but if you thought
that you had a team that was worthy of
signing a free agent quarterback at that
money rob G that tells me you’re not
thinking about rebuilding you’re
thinking about you have something to
play for now would you agree with that
that you think you have some defense and
some receivers that you believe you have
something now not building towards the
future it makes no sense cuz he’s not
going to be playing it’s just a wasted
spot but what if he plays in two years
and it’s like Jordan love okay then what
but the difference is what you could you
Jordan had to wait why did Jordan have
to wait you had a Hall of Famer in front
of him why did Aaron roders have to wait
you had a Hall of Famer in front of
those M had to wait for Alex Smith and
he wasn’t a Hall of Famer what was one
Year and that was different that was why
is that different no that wasn’t that
that cuz that’s not waiting Aaron Rogers
waited three years uh Jordan love waited
three years he at more than a cup of
coffee in a sweet rooll that’s right do
you see my point one year something I
got you if if uh Kurt Cousins was your
quarterback and you were going to move
on from him Rob G in a year then I got
you all right that makes sense come on
man this doesn’t make sense this is who
they are this is why the Falcons you
smell that that’s not my upper lip that
is the
Falcons oh God can’t believe I’m
defending the Falcons yes

  1. Yo the title is funny. So 100 million guaranteed and old QB that hasn't won nothing deserves a explanation?

  2. Kurt definitely has a right to complain but Atlanta has no loyalty to him. Kurt is a business QB but he mad at the team doing a business decision. I personally think Atlanta should have either drafted Mike or sign Kurt. Not both

  3. He can question all he wants but the fact remains he’s in a good situation both of them are MPJ can sit behind Kirk cousins for at least two possibly three years let them develop and Kirk is with the team that he can legit compete for the division and once they get into the playoffs you never know what might happen Rob Parker don’t know nothing of course.

  4. Penix was touted as the most ready to play QB and now he's got sit for at least two years. He'll be 26 when Kirk's guarantee money is over. He should be more mad than Cousins

  5. Falcons are dumb. This is what they get trying to shaft belichick. Complete clown show there now lol. Good job Blank. 😂. Kraft must be laughing his ass off in the background.

  6. HIM💥😂💥MAD.. ATLANTA FALCONS, Have two very good quarterback NOW 🔥 STOP hating, this is our team, y'all need to worry about your own mess..😂😂😂

  7. Why does a average game manager with one playoff win in 13 years a playoff game in which he was pedestrian until a couple late throws to wide open guys have a right to question anyone😅

  8. Kirk cousins is and always will be a bridge qb.
Yes. They should've gotten a receiver but they also need to plan for the future.

  9. While I agree in principle Kirk has been an absolute NFL mercenary going to the highest bidder and knowingly went to a team that has an owner who was talked out of bringing on Bill Belichick. I don't feel bad for Kirk Cousins ONE IOTA!

  10. No one is talking about how shitty this sits for Penix. Telling the oldest quarterback drafted (24 yrs old) who is probably one of the three quarterbacks drafted who could start in that position on day one that he will sit on the bench for 4 to 5 yrs. So Penix will be 28-29 yrs old before he starts. Essentially halfway through his lifespan as a NFL quarterback. If I were Penix, I would demand a trade or hold out.

  11. This is so hypocritical. Last year the media torched the Jets for not bringing in a legitimate fill-in when Aaron went down. Now they want to torch Atlanta for bringing in a legitimate back-up for an old Kirk coming off an Achilles.

  12. If Cousins has a bad game then a QB controversy will develop. If the Falcons are out of the playoff race then Penix will have to play. 100 Million for a one or two year QB?

  13. The falcons say they want to replicate the packers model. The packers had Brett Favre a 3 time mvp 1 time superbowl champ. Aaron rodgers was 21 years old when drafted. When the packers drafted Jordan Love he was 21 years old sitting behind a 4 time MVP 1 time superbowl champ. The falcons just spent 180 million for 4 years for a QB with 1 playoff win and then draft a QB who will be 24 when training camp comes and plan to sit him for 3-4 years. If the Falcons plan to keep Cousins for the entirity of his contract. Penix will be 28 and the falcons will be wondering if they drafted the right guy while QBs of that age are either on another team or nearing the end of the long term contract getting ready to go to the table for the extension. If the Falcons wanted to do this they should have traded up for Drake Maye. I guarantee half the people in that Falcons war room last night will be out of a job in 3-4 years.

  14. I’m surprised the owner agreed with this move since the GM signed Kurt to a large contract. Since the NFL combine is before free agency, they should have not made that move if they were interested in Penix since they had a high pick.

  15. I know Penix lo key pissed…He been in college playing for 6 yrs an have to wait ,who knows how long because if cousin ball out then what? You still get rid of him?

  16. Cousins is 35 years old and will be 36 before the start of the season, even if you buy into Cousins( I certainly do not) you can't possibly believe he will be relevant in 2+ seasons.

  17. Cousins doesn’t have a right to question a damn thing his money is guaranteed and all he has to do is go out there and perform. The franchise has every right to prepare for the future and that’s exactly what they are doing.

  18. worse cousins, your an effective marginal .500QBs at best. cousins will make the falcons just competitive enough to sell tickets.

The falcons could not go wrong picking a would be replacement.
worse is lucky he got that typical bank heist contract he got.
Any team would be crazy to trust you worst cousins.
The audacity of this guy .your injured. Be quiet and go play your typical losing football. The nerve of this guy. falcons great job picking your ab of the future.

  19. You literally said it. “If you’re going to move on from him in a year then fine.”
Of course they’re going to move on. As soon as it makes sense.

  20. Complete projection on Rob G's part.
I'm sure most people who followed the draft enough to actually want to attend knew who Terrion Arnold was. (Consensus CB1/2 in this draft)
I get if you're really casual and didn't, but if you are willing to stand around watching the draft, you probably knew who Terrion Arnold was.
Draft doesn't get to total unknown's until like the 3rd round, just cause Rob G doesn't know any college players doesn't mean we're all like that.

  21. Cousins has no right to question anything. Everyone forgets Cousins was drafted by the redskins in the 3rd round after they traded a bunch of picks to move up and drafted RG3. This is just business

  22. The only way this makes sense is if Cousins is the backup at 180m/100m GTD and Penix starts his NFL career in Week 4.

    Wait…

  23. they should have cholse one or the other, either you wasted 100 million or you wasted a top 10 pick on someone who wont play.
