Cantlay and Schauffele climb into contention | Round 2 | Zurich Classic | 2024

In second-round Foursomes at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele carded a 5-under 67 to move within one shot of the lead.

The PGA TOUR heads to New Orleans this week for the Zurich Classic at TPC Louisiana. This is the only two-man team event on the PGA TOUR schedule. Rory McIlroy makes his tournament debut alongside good friend, Ryder Cup teammate and fellow Irishman Shane Lowry. McIlroy is looking to build some momentum this season, as he has posted only one top-15 thus far (third at the Valero Texas Open). Lowry recently went T4-3rd-T19 on the Florida Swing. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele play together this week in an attempt to claim the title back after their victory in 2022. Cantlay played well for a T3 finish last week at the RBC Heritage, while Schauffele’s T2 at THE PLAYERS Championship and 8th place finish at the Masters will give him confidence. The pair claimed T4 in defense of their title last year. Davis Riley and Nick Hardy will defend their 2023 title this week. No team has ever gone back-to-back at this event. Others to look out for are Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris, as well as three sets of brothers including Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick, Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard and Parker and Pierceson Coody.

made their way to number five that’s a

Xander so playing a little bit down and
out of the right should be a very
comfortable t-ball he likes to hit a cut
hold it up against the breeze but I
think he’s hit it a little right worried
about it getting through the Fairway but
it’s just fine all right Patrick Klay
now Xander shafley put him in good shape
in the Fairway his approach coming off
birdie back at
four and this is solid from Klay so now
back over to five shley and Klay Xander
okay we got up to nine

day and that’s going to be a difficult
third there having to come across the
green with that pitch and a lot of slope
to deal
with what a shot from shle John I would
say that would be job especially in this
format to set your partner up for a tap
in birdie like that it’s a great
feeling they’re double digits under

got it starts up the right actually is
trying to come back a bit here that’s
right where he lined it up catches a
decent

plenty of room out to the
right it’s going to be one Xander’s
thinking about a little bit there oh you
think yeah good 5 and 1/2 ft here back
up the
slope momentum par putt clean card on
the front side they go out at 4 under

little fade yeah excellent play there
Jim I think it’s really a three shot
hole today with that wind increasing in
velocity back into the breeze I just
don’t see many players especially in
this
format uh not letting it go so
much yeah got it up in the wind here

Billy Ray you didn’t get it on the green
yeah technically technicality
yeah that was crisp that sound excellent
shot so have a good chance for B
birdie all right birdie for Klay imagine
that one shot back this team is
solid five birdies on the round one of
the best rounds we got
today what’s going left that
is get over in that pine straw and get
behind that tree that is going to be a
challenge
this is out to the right it’s going to
catch that slope and probably kick it
further to the right
there okay that’s a good leave I thought
if you pulled one off there I might it
could have been tremendous but I don’t
know oh
boy it’s got to be down grain to come
off that fast
wow that’s a big time save there got
away with a bad drive by Xander and they
save part they’ll stay at 12 under just
one
back and they starts
right I mean Comfort level with this
golf course that is highly risky knowing
I guess if you’re in those right trees
you’ll be able to get something around
the front edge but that’s a bit of a
shocking decision for me can’t wait to
see where he lands
this he went with the 60 send it up in
the air trying to use some of that slope
see if it releases and it
does it’s a great play off the
te great decision off the te there
Johnson I love that play I I’d do it 10
times out of 10 Billy Ray even into the
wind slips that one in
these got 6 under
today hangs us out a bit to the right
here that’s
flirting I did not see that coming there
it’s going to be an awkward drop to
where did it cross may have to drop in
that bunker on the right hand side of
this Fairway pretty good distance and
give them at least a chance but you
cannot miss right obviously
oh boy uh that Billy Ray that caught the
edge of the right bunker and that is
going to be an awkward fourth over the
penalty area the whole
way sounded like a solid strike that’s
going to leave a pretty awkward pitch
there not much green to work with and
it’s running away from him
that’s to try and get up and down for
bogy no
way he’s been a magician today on the
greens an absolute magician Billy Ray
for them to say bogey on this home hole
where it could have gone totally wrong
they have to look at this and go okay we
got away with one here
only Dro one shot but to the day with a
67 I think I would have made eight had I
been in that position
